SAVE THE DATE!Cradle to Prison Pipeline® Campaign

We face an urgent national crisis at the intersection of poverty and race that puts a Black boy born in 2001 at a 1 in 3 chance of going to prison in his lifetime, and a Latino boy a 1 in 6 risk of the same fate.

CDF's Cradle to Prison Pipeline Campaign is a national call to action to stop the funneling of tens of thousands of youth, down life paths that often lead to arrest, conviction, incarceration and sometimes death.

Texas Campaign to Dismantle the Cradle to Prison Pipeline

March, 2008 — CDF, the University of Houston Center for Children, Law & Policy and over 700 advocates from across the state gathered for a Texas Summit to identify effective strategies to dismantle what CDF has called the Cradle to Prison Pipeline.
Over the summer months, CDF-Texas convened taskforces to develop policy recommendations addressing six key issue areas:
  1. Early Childhood Education
  2. Educational, Social, and Emotional Youth Development
  3. Children’s Health and Mental Health Care
  4. Child Abuse Prevention and Protection
  5. Positive Growth through the Juvenile Justice System
  6. Reducing Childhood Poverty
November 2008 CDF reconvened more than 500 community leaders, attorneys, judges, juvenile justice and child welfare professionals, elected officials and youth advocates for a one-day forum to present the outcomes of the six summer taskforces.

Listen to Houston Public Radio KUHF news coverage of the forum.

CDF-TX presented a powerpoint and Message to the 81st Texas Legislature with policy recommendations for dismantling the Pipeline.

A Youth Advisory Committee comprised of youth who have experienced the foster care and juvenile justice systems also presented their own policy recommendations.
