Established in 1999, CDF's Houston office works to secure a Healthy Start and a Fair Start for children and access to affordable health coverage through CHIP and Children's Medicaid.

CDF-Texas leads the statewide advocacy campaign to ensure that all children have seamless access to the quality, affordable health care coverage they need to grow and thrive.

In 2005, CDF-Texas spearheaded the Insure Texas Kids Campaign in collaboration with the Texas CHIP Coalition, mobilizing regional coordinators across the state to advocate for and restore the Texas CHIP program. For over three years, CDF-Houston led the 650 member, 16 county, Gulf Coast CHIP Coalition to mobilize key community, faith, business, health and media partners to enroll more than 90,000 Harris County children in affordable health coverage.

CDF educates low-income working families through small businesses and apartment communities about the benefits of CHIP, tax credits like the Earned Income Credit and Child Tax Credit, and basic financial literacy.
