Barbara Best is CDF’s Texas Executive Director and has
overseen the growth of the Texas office from a staff of one
to 27 statewide, with a $1.7 million budget. She started the
Houston office in December, 1999 and oversaw the establishment
of the Rio Grande Valley office along the Mexican border in
April, 2001.
In 2007, she led the statewide Insure
Texas Kids Campaign and mobilized regional coordinators
in ten Texas communities to restore the Children’s Health
Insurance Program (CHIP) to 127,000 Texas children.
In 2006, she was profiled as one of 15 international advocates
by the World Health Organization as part of their Voices
From the Frontline web series on international efforts
to improve access to healthcare.
In 2002, she was awarded the Spirit of Collaboration
award from the Greater Houston Collaborative for Children for
her work in promoting access to healthcare for Houston children.
