Carolyn DeVaughn

Manager of Outreach

Carolyn DeVaughn is Manager of Outreach for the Houston office. She coordinates volunteer capacity, trains and supervises part-time outreach staff to support CDF's Houston and Harris County child health insurance outreach and enrollment efforts.

In support of CDF's school-based outreach initiatives, Carolyn has trained over 300 Houston Independent School District nurses, parent liaisons, counselors and support staff on the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and Children’s Medicaid application process. She has also trained school nurses and staff of the Health and Medical Services Department in the 19 outlying school districts of Region 4 - Harris County.

As a mother of a child with special health care needs, she knows first hand some of the needs of Houston children. She has also used her awareness of resources in assisting Hurricane Katrina/Rita and Ike families to access services.

Carolyn serves on the Neighborhood Centers Inc. Health Services Advisory Committee and on the Child Advocacy Task Force of the Presbytery of New Covenant. She is a native Houstonian and graduate of Huston-Tillotson University in Austin with a B.A. degree in Sociology.
