Dr. Laura Guerra-Cardus serves as Interim Director and Policy
Director for CDF–Texas, and leads the Texas
Finish Line Campaign which works to ensure that all children
in Texas have access to affordable health care coverage.
During the 81st legislative session, she led a coalition of
over 70 organizations which nearly secured health coverage for
more than 80,000 Texas children. Laura also served as the project
coordinator for the Children’s Defense Fund campaign
to dismantle the Cradle to Prison Pipeline®, which addresses
the funneling of hundreds of thousands of children down life
paths that often lead to arrest and incarceration.
Laura is a graduate of Rice University and Baylor College of
Medicine. After graduating from medical school, Laura served
as a Fellow in the Coro Fellowship Program in Public Affairs
– St. Louis, managing diverse health care projects for
civic and public service organizations, including leading an
evaluation of children's access to health care for the St. Louis
Regional Health Commission and the Missouri Foundation for Health.
