Laura Guerra-Cardus, M.D.

Interim Director
Texas Policy Director

Dr. Laura Guerra-Cardus serves as Interim Director and Policy Director for CDF–Texas, and leads the Texas Finish Line Campaign which works to ensure that all children in Texas have access to affordable health care coverage.

During the 81st legislative session, she led a coalition of over 70 organizations which nearly secured health coverage for more than 80,000 Texas children. Laura also served as the project coordinator for the Children’s Defense Fund campaign to dismantle the Cradle to Prison Pipeline®, which addresses the funneling of hundreds of thousands of children down life paths that often lead to arrest and incarceration.

Laura is a graduate of Rice University and Baylor College of Medicine. After graduating from medical school, Laura served as a Fellow in the Coro Fellowship Program in Public Affairs – St. Louis, managing diverse health care projects for civic and public service organizations, including leading an evaluation of children's access to health care for the St. Louis Regional Health Commission and the Missouri Foundation for Health.
