Texas Kids Win!CDF Texas Launches Finish Line Campaign

CDF Texas, the Center for Public Policy Priorities, and Texans Care for Children, in collaboration with business, community, faith and health care leaders across the state recently launched the Texas Finish Line Campaign.

4th Saturdays CHIP Drive at Houston-area Fiesta Marts


In honor of Cover the Uninsured Week, a national initiative of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, CDF-TX kicked-off a "4th Saturdays CHIP Drive" at participating Fiesta Marts in Houston.

 

Do you know an uninsured child?
Someone you know may qualify for low-cost or free children's health coverage through Medicaid or CHIP.

GrandRallyHouston Celebrates Third National GrandRally

On May 7, CDF and over 150 grandparents and other relatives raising children rallied and engaged in a letter writing campaign to urge Congress and the Senate to support the Kinship Caregiver Support Act (S. 661 / H.R. 2188).

 

Over 300 thank you letters were sent to U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, and U.S. Representatives Sheila Jackson Lee, Gene Green and Al Green for their support of this legislation.

Idol Gives BackCDF Official Beneficiary of
Idol Gives Back 2008

CDF was thrilled to be an official Idol Gives Back 2008 beneficiary. During the special April 9th broadcast, that raised awareness and benefitted select U.S. and international charities, CDF National Board Member Reese Witherspoon highlighted CDF's work for children.

Facts about Texas Children
  • The state of Texas has the highest rate of uninsured children in the nation at 20.2% (the U.S. average is 11.6%).
  • Of the 1.5 million uninsured Texas children, more than half are eligible for, but not enrolled, in CHIP or Children's Medicaid.
  • Nearly 90% of uninsured children have at least one parent working full-time.
  • According to the Texas Department of Insurance, the average cost of private family health coverage is $11,000 a year, or $917 a month.
  • More than 1 in 5 Texas children (21.8%) lives in poverty.
