Claiming Tax CreditsEconomic Security for Families

Children depend on the support of families. EITC, CTC, VITA and Financial Literacy can help working families reclaim more of what they earn to help their kids.

As part of CDF's goal to END CHILD POVERTY, CDF Texas has developed a local tax benefits outreach initiative to raise awareness about tax credits and the basics of finance and credit.

Connecting families to unclaimed Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC) dollars through free tax preparation Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites can help to lift families out of poverty.

DID YOU KNOW?

Many low-income working families, earning less than $35,000 a year, are eligible for returns of up to $4,300.

  • Unclaimed EITC dollars in Houston = $36 million

  • Unclaimed EITC dollars in RGV = $33 million

  • Total unclaimed EITC dollars in Texas = $137 million
