Hundreds of Southeast Texas Youths to March and Rally in Galveston for National Health Care Reform

Representative Eiland, Doctors and Students to Participate in National Day of Social Action

Galveston, TX–On Monday, July 13 at 10:30am, Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) Texas will hold a Children’s March and Rally with roughly 300 youths in Galveston around the issue of health care reform. They will be joining nearly 12,000 youths in 27 states as part of the CDF Freedom Schools® National Day of Social Action.

A press conference will follow with State Representative Craig Eiland; Dr. Joan Richardson, Chair of the Department of Pediatrics, University of Texas Medical Branch; Dr. Jeff Temple, Assistant Professor, University of Texas Medical Branch; and hundreds of youth from CDF Freedom Schools sites in Beaumont, Houston and Galveston. Speakers will address the difficulties facing uninsured children in Texas and the need for health care reform at the national level to include comprehensive, affordable and streamlined health coverage for all children. The event is being held in Galveston to focus special attention on the region’s critical health care needs post‐Hurricane Ike.
