Child Poverty and Economic Security for Families

Children do not come in pieces; they depend on the support of families. In line with CDF's goal to end child poverty, CDF-TX works to raise awareness about the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Child Tax Credit (CTC), Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites and other benefits to help working families keep more of what they earn so they can help their kids.

Each year, CDF-TX helps to bring millions of tax credits back to working families through coordination of free tax preparation VITA sites in the Rio Grande Valley and in Houston.

In just six years, the CDF-TX Rio Grande Valley office has spearheaded EITC and VITA community partnerships that have netted a total of $12.3 million dollars in returns for 6,680 low-income families in the Rio Grande Valley region.

Did you know?

Many low-income working families, earning less than $35,000 a year, are eligible for income tax returns of up to $4,300.

The IRS has provided a list of all VITA sites in Texas.
