Enroll Eligible Children in Coverage

Many uninsured Texas children are eligible for free or low-cost coverage, but are not enrolled. It is estimated that more than half of uninsured children are eligible for coverage through Medicaid and CHIP but are not signed up.

CDF-TX advocates for improved eligibility and enrollment systems, as well as outreach and education efforts to ensure all children who are eligible for affordable coverage get enrolled and stay enrolled. Since 2002, CDF-TX has also established partnerships with local school districts in Harris County and in the Rio Grande Valley to develop school-based strategies to identify uninsured children and connect them with affordable health coverage.
