2012 Beat the Odds® Awards - Dallas

Dallas Awards Ceremony and Reception

On November 16th, event chair Kristen Jones Colby hosted the Children’s Defense Fund-Texas 3rd annual Beat the Odds® awards ceremony and reception in Dallas, a special celebration of five extraordinary youths. The students received a combined $60,000 in scholarships to college. Former CDF-Texas advisory board member Sarah Palisi Chapin was honored with CDF-Texas' 2012 Champion of Children award and distinguished speakers included: Pat Smith, president and founder of Treasure You; Crystal Johnson, 2003 Beat the Odds award recipient; and Marian Wright Edelman, president of Children’s Defense Fund.
