There are 1.2 million uninsured children in Texas. This represents the highest number of uninsured children of any state in the nation.
Right now, more than half of these children are eligible for the state's Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) or Children's Medicaid.

CDF-Texas leads the Texas Finish Line Campaign, a collaboration with the Center for Public Policy Priorities and Texans Care for Children. The Campaign represents the coordination of more than 100 partner organizations across the state.
Since 2007, CDF-Texas and its partners have helped secure health coverage for more than 500,000 uninsured Texas children.
Increases in enrollment have resulted from improvements in enrollment and renewal legislation, and a variety of staffing and procedural changes at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), all successfully advocated by the Campaign. The Texas Finish Line Campaign continues to monitor the implementation of state child health insurance policies, raises public awareness and attention to ongoing challenges, spearheads outreach and enrollment efforts through innovative and strategic partnerships, and maintains close coordination with the state agency that processes eligibility.
With the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act now part of federal law, the Texas Finish Line Campaign will continue to ensure that all eligible uninsured children enroll in Children's Medicaid or CHIP; all Texas children receive the full immediate benefits of national health reform; and that implementation proceeds in a way that truly provides seamless access to healthcare coverage for all Texas children.
