Enthusiastic and energetic, Julie Negussie electrifies the room. As a member of Varsity Choir, co-president of Key Club, competitive swimmer and ranked 4th in a class of 465, Julie was an active and engaged woman on a mission. In search of a safer place to live, Julie's parents immigrated to the United States from Ethiopia. Although Julie's father worked very long hours as a taxi driver, the family was poverty-stricken, lacking even basic necessities like running water in their home. Julie’s mother was frequently absent from home, leaving Julie as the primary caretaker for her younger sister. Despite such incredible odds, Julie graduated from W.T. White High School, where she earned a 100% in her Advanced Placement Chemistry class. One day Julie hopes to improve the lives of other Ethiopians in need.
