What
is CDF SHOUT™?
The
Student Health OUTreach™
Project is a student-run program of the Children's Defense Fund
to raise awareness about the uninsured, and to connect families
with health care resources for their kids.
More
than 9 million American children lack health coverage, while
5.8 million of them qualify for free or low cost health insurance
through Medicaid and CHIP.
Children
do not receive Medicaid and CHIP
automatically -- parents must apply first. The problem is that
many parents do not know help is available or that their children
may qualify.
With
CDF support, student chapters learn important advocacy skills
to make a difference in their community.

What
is CDF SPROUT™?
The
Student Poverty Reduction
OUTreach™ program is a student-run program
of the Children's Defense Fund.
Student
chapters engage in CDF's national campaign to help lift families
out of poverty by connecting families to public health insurance
and other benefits available.
Benefit
programs include CHIP, Medicaid, the Earned Income Tax Credit
(EITC), the Child Tax Credit (CTC), and food stamps.
Many
families do not know about benefits and credits, do not realize
they are eligible, do not know where or how to apply for them,
or cannot take hours away from work to apply.
CDF
SPROUT™ chapters aim to reach all eligible families
with children and sign them up for benefits. Students partner
with local groups and schools to help with outreach and enrollment
efforts.
