    2012 Beat the Odds® Awards
    On May 3, 2012 CDF-Texas will celebrate the 13th annual Beat the Odds awards in Houston at the Hilton Post Oak. The event will honor the extraordinary achievements of five high school seniors who have overcome tremendous challenges in life to achieve academic success and demonstrate leadership. In addition to college scholarships, students receive continued support, mentoring and leadership development training opportunities from CDF.

    2011 CDF National Observance of Children's Sabbaths Weekend
    Antioch Missionary Baptist Church (500 Clay Street, downtown Houston) is hosting a 20th anniversary Children’s Sabbath celebration on Sunday, October 23, 2011 at 3:30pm. The event is free and the public is invited to attend.

    Be a Superhero for Summer Learning! CDF-Texas invites you to join over 600 young scholars and community leaders in the Summer’s most inspiring event. Join us in celebrating the spirit of reading, and recognize the accomplishments of the class of 2011 Texas CDF Freedom Schools at the official "End of Summer" 2011 celebration in Houston on Wednesday, July 27th from 11:30 to 1:00 pm.

    Houston - 2011 Beat the Odds® Awards
    On May 6, 2011, CDF-Texas will celebrate its 12th annual Beat the Odds awards in Houston at the Junior League of Houston. The celebration recognizes the achievements of five extraordinary high school seniors who will each receive college scholarships. Being honored this year as a Champion of Children is former CDF-Texas executive director, Barbara Best, for her leadership on behalf of Texas children while serving as the state office director for ten years.

    Dallas - 2011 Beat the Odds® Awards
    On April 27, 2011, CDF-Texas will celebrate its second annual Beat the Odds awards in Dallas at the Frontiers of Flight Museum. The luncheon will recognize the achievements of seven outstanding high school seniors who will each receive college scholarships.

Money Week Houston is an excellent educational event offering the necessary products and information to families and individuals on how to make informed decisions when it comes to personal finance and investment.

    Child Health Advocacy Day
    CDF-Texas invites you to join us in Austin on March 30th. Now is the time to have your voice heard as CDF will join thousands of advocates from across the state for a Child Health Advocacy Day sponsored by Cover Texas Now. Buses will be available to bring child advocates to the Capitol. No experience is necessary and anyone can participate. Training will be provided.

    CHIP and Children's Medicaid Application Assistance in Alief
    Are you a parent or caregiver raising a child under 18 who is uninsured? If so, we can help you apply or renew coverage in CHIP or Children's Medicaid for your child! This Saturday, from 10am to 2pm, make sure to bring: yourself, and COPIES of the following documents so you can complete your paperwork on-site: recent pay stubs, SSI, child support or tax returns; the child's birth certificate; and a copy of child care expenses (if applicable). Help will be available in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese!

    Come learn how families and families in your school district can benefit from: Children’s Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and the Earned Income Tax Credit/Child Tax Credit (EITC/CTC). All Title I, School Nurses, CIS workers, Counselors, Social Workers, Benefit Coordinators and other staff working with families and employees in Deer Park, Galena Park, Klein, Pasadena, and Sheldon Independent School Districts are invited!

    CDF Freedom Schools National African American Read-In Event
    First Love Community Development Program Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools® will celebrate the 22nd National African American Read-In on Thursday, February 24th from 1:30 to 2:20 pm The National African American Read-In joins over one million readers helping to make the celebration of African American literacy a traditional part of Black History Month activities. The students are looking forward to hosting a guest reader from our community. You may read a book selected by the classroom teacher or bring your favorite story to share with the students.
